Etsy Sellers: Don’t Fall for This Scam

Scam alert for Etsy sellers
If you get this Etsy mail, mark it as spam

There’s been another scam in Etsy going around, where you will get a message through Etsy’s messaging system (and to your email) asking for your email address.

It can come in two forms, sometimes together, making it seem more legitimate.

Email #1

The first email is from a potential buyer, stating they tried to buy one of your listings but there was an error in the checkout, and they need to add your email address.

Email #2

The second message you may receive is from someone saying they are from Etsy support and there was a system failure when a customer tried to buy one of your items. They need to do the sale manually, therefore need your email address to send you a form so you can receive payment.

What to do

If you do receive either of these messages, mark them as spam.

At this stage you can’t mark a message as spam from the Etsy Seller App, you will need to do it from the Shop Manager in a browser.

Marking as spam also ignores the fact that you didn’t reply to that email when it comes to counting email responses for your Star Seller badges. So not replying will not affect your chances of gaining or retaining your Star Seller badge.
